Joseph Borio: Heart Rate Variability

Joseph Borio is a chiropractor who has been practicing in Cicero, New York for more than twenty-five years. Joseph Borio is passionate about providing the best health care possible. “I work with all ages of people to help them get and stay well,” he says.
He shares his knowledge on a series of YouTube videos called “Change Your Health Change Your Life with Dr. Joe Borio.” A wide range of issues have been discussed in the series, including back pain, treating Alzheimer’s, and children with ADD/HD.
In one episode he discussed research into what is called heart rate variability. “What the heck is that?” he asked rhetorically, as the video begins. “When we measure the heart rate, what we notice is that it varies by the microsecond. There’s a variation; the heart doesn’t beat exactly – the space between the beats, the silence between the heartbeats, if you will, is different, just by a teeny little bit. And that’s a measurement that we use now to measure the overall health of the physiology of the individual.” Heart rate variability, he continues, is becoming accepted as one of the simplest non-invasive ways of measuring a person’s overall physiologic state of health.
